Snack Club picked The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty as our book club book for July. This book follows Ellen O’Farrell on her journey to find love. Ellen is a hypnotherapist, which hits home for me because I am a therapist also. Ellen ends up meeting Patrick, who ends up being the man of her dreams. There is a catch. Patrick has a stalker. Moriarty does a wonderful job of capturing the craziness of this stalker as well. Saskia, the stalker, is an ex-girlfriend of Patrick that is bat-shit crazy. Through the book you find Saskia eating lunch in his backyard, making Ellen cookies, becoming one of Ellen’s patients through her private practice, etc. Full blown crazy. I can’t mention this enough. Moriarty keeps this page turner going by adding little twists and turns at the end of every chapter to keep you asking for more. I don’t want to keep going on and on about it because I’ll ruin the story!
Pros: Quick page turner, leaves room for suspense, overall very easy read, Moriarty focused on building the main characters and left the others to a minimal explanation.
Cons: I felt like Patrick had more of an untold story and I was waiting for more to happen. Maybe she’s leaving it for a possibility for a sequel?
Over all I give this book a 3.5 out of 5 Kylee stars. Most of our book club agreed that it was a good read, but it felt incomplete at some parts. If any of you have read this book please let me know how you felt in the comments below!
