Long Time No Postings

Where have I been? I feel like it has been forever since I have been on here! This is because my computer likes to stop working a lot of the time. So I either have to use our iPad or do not post. This has been my answer for the past several weeks. New computers are giant purchases that I’m not willing to make at this time. So instead I’ll type from a tiny keyboard from my ipad.

So since that’s out of the way it’s time to talk about other things that are taking a long time. Currently I’m finding myself in a rut. A reading rut that is. I cannot seem to finish reading a few books that I have started. Does anyone else in the world do this? I’m sure the answer is yes. We all do it. Here are my best tips to get out of that reading rut and get back into the swing of things!

  1. Organize the books that you have began reading. This may seem like a daunting task, but it helps you know where you stand. I find that if they’re all in one place you’re more likely to reach for one to finish until the stack is gone.
  2. Set away time each day for your a book. I personally reach for one book each day and try to read for one hour. Some days it’s easier than others. The every day stressors tend to take over where we can’t even find one hour to read. The easiest way for me to do this is to power down my electronics and pick up a book. Studies suggest turning off electronics one hour before bed to assist with getting enough REM cycles. Try it out, your sleep will thank you for it.
  3. STOP PICKING UP NEW BOOKS. Several of the book readers I know are book hoarders. That means if I see any sale, I’m purchasing a book I may want to read a month to several years from now. Silly I know, but I like to be prepared to read more! The more you avoid purchasing new books, the more you will read the billions you have collected, or even started.
  4. Join a book club. This is honestly the biggest motivation for me to continue reading as quickly as I can. Our book club gathers once a month or once every other month depending if there are schedule conflicts. I’m sure no one likes to be the one in book club stating that they didn’t read the book. Let me tell you, I’ve been that person and it’s quite embarrassing because everyone else wants to talk about the book and you ruined it. Whomp whomp. What a bummer.

I hope you can relate to these tips. I know I struggle with putting the electronics down and reading. Once that book opens, I’m asleep. Make sure in the comments you let me know what you get out of a book rut. Hopefully I’ll get to keep up easier with this blog now that I have computer access again!

Book Sales

This past month I have went to two giant book sales. Luckily I live in a county with several public libraries. I am forever grateful for this. The two sales I went to were the Lititz Public Library sale and the Manheim Public Library Sale. lititzlibrarymanheimlib

These book sales were different for me. This time I went with a mission. My sister, Wendy, is a giant fan of Nora Roberts. So finding her a book she hasn’t read of Nora’s is fairly difficult. When I went to the book sales this year, Wendy asked me to find every J.D. Robb book I could find. Those of you who aren’t big book fans, J.D. Robb is a pen name for Nora Roberts. She created the “In Death..” series. I was so excited to find so many used books that were on my list. Over all I was able to find 18 books of the series. Sadly there is 53 or 54 books in the series, so we’re no where near completed with the collection. Wendy and I both have a running list of these books so we can mark them off as we find them! The best part of all of this? One of the books is a signed copy! What a find! You’ll see I also found a recipe book at the sale as well.

Now to wait for the next sale to complete the series! Do you go to book sales with a mission as well? Let me know in the comments below!

Coffee Book Tag!

It’s time for a good ol’ fashion game of tag! Best part? It’s all book and coffee related! So sit back, grab a cup of your favorite coffee and let’s get down to business!

1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.

Game of Thrones

Easily Game of Thrones Series by George R.R. Martin. I’ve never seen the show and I cannot for the life of me get into the books. So many characters so fast! Tons of hardcore fans of the book series and the show. Maybe one day…
2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.

Hands down, Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling.  Whether you are rereading the series or watching the movies, you get into that festive spirit!  Every Christmas I decorate my tree in Gryffindor colors. Perks of having your own home and tree!
3. Hot chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

the beast

I loved The Beast by R.L. Stine. A time traveling roller coaster is exactly what I need as an adult! I have tried this venture on many roller coasters. It remains the current year when I exit the ride.
4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

still missing

Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. This is a very frightening book. This is unlike other books I’ve read because of the kidnapping part. Yes, I carried mace with me after I reading this book.
5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

I would say the 50 Shades Series by E.L. James. Haven’t read it and will never read it. Not into this type of book., but it’s everywhere.
6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shoutout

I honestly have no idea who to put here. It appears that everyone who is “Indie” becomes huge authors that I have read.  Hopefully, I’ll find one soon that I enjoy.
7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.

gone girl

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Such a great book, but the ending dropped off. The ending of the book was a total disappointment for me. The rest of the book had me ready for a kick ass ending. If you’re expecting this, don’t read this book.

8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.

I chose the Divergent Series by Veronica Roth. Who doesn’t love Four? Loved Divergent and Insurgent. Allegiant was bitter and terrible to be quite honest. The rest of the series was great despite this book.

I hope you enjoyed this tag and I’m tagging everyone to complete this! Happy Tuesday Folks!
